How to reach Cherrapunjee?

Travelers can fly into Guwahati Airport, in Assam or to Umroi Airport near Shillong in Meghalaya. Guwahati in Assam is connected to Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Cochin by direct flights or one hop flights with multiple flight options. Therefore, it is convenient to fly to Guwahati, because of less travel time or transit stops and very often cost effective too. From Guwahati Airport one can reach the Resort by road via Shillong in 5 to 6 hour drive time, a distance of 190 kms. From Guwahati Airport, Shillong the Capital of Meghalaya is connected by a four lane Expressway.

There is one Air India ATR flight from Kolkata to Umroi Airport near Shillong. Indigo also has introduced one flight from Kolkata to Shillong. This will be convenient for those traveling from Kolkata. For those flying via Kolkata, it may be a better option to fly from Kolkata to Umroi near Shillong. From Umroi Airport one can drive down to the Resort a distance of 95 kms in 3 hours time.

Meghalaya Helicopter Service operates short hop Helicopter flights between Guwahati Airport and Upper Shillong. It is mainly meant for officials. They do take in other passengers if seats are available. Seat Capacity is only SEVEN. They operate two flights on week days. They restrict your baggage to just one small suitcase. The tickets are subsidised, and you are in Upper Shillong from Guwahati Airport in just 20 minutes. One can reach the Resort in less than two hours by road.

By Railway

The nearest rail-head is at Guwahati, which is 170 kms from the Resort. Meghalaya is still not connected by the Railway Network. Guwahati is connected by many long distance trains to various parts of the country.

Pick Up from Guwahati / Umroi Airports / Guwahati Railway Station

If you want to be picked up from Guwahati or Umroi Airport, we can arrange for a pick-up vehicle as per your requirement.
You can hire tourist cabs from the Guwahati Airport to Shillong directly. It takes about 3 hours to Shillong. Meghalaya Tourism is running Winger Service to Shillong from Guwahati Airport. You can contact Meghalaya Tourism Counter at the Arrival Lounge for assistance. You can have a midway halt at Nongpoh to stretch your legs, for tea/coffee, snacks, fruits or food. There are some good restaurants immediately before reaching Nongpoh and in Nongpoh  the midway town or just after. – Orchid Jiva Veg, Woodland Restaurant, Excellentia Restaurant.

Public Road Transport from Guwahati / Shillong

Buses to Shillong operate from Inter State Bus Terminus on Khanapara-Jalukbari Bye Pass Road. The Tourist Taxi Stand for Tourist Taxis going to Shillong, Share Taxis and Maxi Taxis (Sumos) operate from Paltan Bazar side of Guwahati Railway Station.

The Share Taxis from Guwahati, that take in 4 persons charge currently Rs.500/= per person and Sumo Maxi Cabs that take in 10 passengers charge Rs.200/= per person to Shillong.

One can also catch the Shuttle Sumos to Sohra from near MAWLONGHAT at Bara Bazaar. Presently they charge Rs.70/= per person up to Cherrapunjee Market and from there reserve a taxi to the Resort for Rs.400/=. These days there are taxis operating from Cherrapunjee Market to Laitkynsew Village where the Resort is situated. You can find the taxies for Laitkynsew parked in front of Sohra Shopping Centre or KL Paswett Store at Sohra (Cherrapunjee).

In Shillong one can also hire Tourist Taxis from the Taxi Stand at Police Bazar, to get to Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort.

The fares indicated are pre-Pandemic rates. Due to restrictions on the plying of vehicles and rising fuel costs, the current fares may be more. We will be able to give a fair indication of the fares, only after normal operations resume after the pandemic is over.
